I got roped into this book because the author starts out rationally discussing physics, even though he admits he has no credentials as a physicist. Then he relates his personal journey with meditation, which is ok. But, then he goes off the rails trying to tie the cosmos and everything in it to consciousness, creativity and other human qualities; complete and utter nonsense. I have no idea what the authors religious beliefs are or what point he was trying to make. Page after page seemed to be just words thrown together. I only got about 30% through this book before giving up finding anything that made sense to me. Maybe I'll try reading further some day when I'm half buzzed, maybe it'll make more sense in that state.Realizing that this author's hero is Barry Long explains a lot. Long published a lot of nonsense about sex and love. I find it hard to take love advice from a guy that deserted his family and then spent the rest of his life with multiple partners. This is a role model?Harrison talks about the singularity that created the universe as a given. It's only a theory and an extremely lame theory. Scientists can't compress a glass of water, they are backing a theory that EVERYTHING in the universe was compressed into a dot? Almost as much nonsense as this author's ramblings.Meditation is great, don't waste your time trying to understand this mish-mash of words, you'll only get a headache.

An impressing, thought-provoking read, considering the author has no deep, extensive background in the scientific field.Surprisingly, I appreciated that he is not “qualified” in this area, as that allowed the literature to be devoid of bombastic, circuitous explanations. The absence of that wall allowed an honest and genuine feel to the author’s words. His depth of knowledge, understanding, and discernment kept me intrigued, roused profound philosophical thoughts and questions within me, and kept me reading to the very end. This book is well-recommended for those who oft ponder life’s unfathomable, philosophical, unanswerable questions and would appreciate a fresh perspective, wholly supported by historical facts.

Humans: From Nothing to NowGetting into this book takes an open mind but once you grasp the reasons for the theories explained, it becomes a lot more fun to read in my opinion. The author definitely knows how to get deep and dissect his theories in detail, to the point that it’s easy to get lost in the original claim if you are not focused. The explorations in this book are beautiful and well devised. There is a lot to learn about how we got to this advanced stage and the writing delves into every stage of our humanity. It pulls from spiritual, scientific and biological theories in efforts to fully understand all of the pieces that formed our evolution. I’ve definitely learned to be more conscious, grounded and appreciative of all the little particles of vibrations around me at all times!

Humans: From Nothing to Now, offers a journey to all readers. The theory presented by the author is well researched and considered, and is laid out in a way that guides the reader through what some might consider to be beyond their interest or experience. There is an ongoing dialogue between theoretical and practical, as Harrison weaves his personal experiences Into the narrative, demonstrating how wider concepts apply to being human. The writing style of Brett Ashcroft Harrison is a delight. He has managed to describe complex concepts is a relaxed, conversational tone. He asks nothing of the reader that he has not asked and answered in himself, and there is much to be taken simply from the commitment to sharing his journey and learnings.I recommend Humans: From Nothing to Now, to all readers. There is value if the content and experience confirm an inner knowing (what we might label as good or comfortable), or if equilibrium is upset (what we might call bad or wrong). Either way, the book provides opportunity for contemplation of much more than what might be considered usual.

I have just finished reading “Humans – From Nothing to Now “by Brett Harrison. I was partly interested in buying this book as from the few reviews received so far, it seems that this work has really polarized opinion! It is always interesting to me when books can produce very strong reactions from readers. The author presents an entirely new way of looking at the world we live in, how the universe could have begun, and cleverly aligns the scientific portion of the book with personal experience, meaning that a non-scientist like me can easily understand. The style of the book is very conversational and engaging which makes it easy to read, and it also contains some interesting personal story from the author. For me, the second section of the book is the most interesting, as the principles that are outlined in the first half are applied to looking at a better way of living – and not in a “self-help” or preachy way. The author is unafraid to look at the real visceral topics of human life – love, sex, death etc and some of his insights on these subjects are original and highly illuminating.Overall, I think that this book would be very appealing to people who are curious, open minded, and looking for some real and workable solutions to some of the dilemmas of modern human life.
