About the Author

W. Timothy Coombs, Ph.D., Purdue University, is the Abell Professor in Liberal Arts in Department of Communication at Texas A&M University. He is the 2002 recipient of Jackson, Jackson & Wagner Behavioral Science Prize from the Public Relations Society of America, received the 2013 Pathfinder Award from the Institute of Public Relations in recognition of his research contributions to the field and to the practice, received the 2014 Business Impact Award from the Association for Business Communication and USC Marshall School of Business, Center for Management Communication, and was the 2014 winner of the Dean′s Distinguished Researcher Award in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida. Dr. Coombs has won multiple PRIDE awards from the Public Relations Division of the National Communication Association for both books and research articles. He is also a member of the Arthur W. Page Society.

In the past six months I've read a few books on crisis management and this is my favorite. Coombs put together a concise book that is well organized, easy to read, and brimming with useful information. He used the three-phase (pre-crisis, crisis, post-crisis) model as a foundation after comparing it with other more robust models.Because this was published recently (2012), the examples were current and memorable. As much as I dig the Tylenol/cyanide case study, it's nice to learn from events that have happened in the past few years.I originally purchased this as a required text for graduate school but have used it as much, if not more, at work in building a crisis management plan from scratch. For someone who needs a grip on the basics, this is an appropriate tool. For a person with extensive crisis management experience, it may fall short of expectations.

No ground-breaking info here, but a good manual to have for anyone needing to develop a crisis communication plan. Good case studies augment the content, which focuses on a three-staged approach to crisis management (precrisis, crisis and postcrisis). Author Dr. Timothy Coombs also provides content on the emerging influence and challenge of social media and social networking sites. A must read for every crisis management or public relations professional.

This book was a great book for information on crisis management which I had to do a presentation on. It was neatly organized and super understandable. It was easy to read not like some text books! I think this would be a great book for teaching students!!

I bought this for a graduate school course, and I recommend it. This has been one of my favorite classes.
