My wife and I bought this book (Kindle edition) for our trip to Shanghai in Nov 2013. She read it on my Kindle Paper White, while I read it on my Kindle for iPad. Both versions were very good, but the iPad was better as it was in full color, the maps, the photos were just awesome on the iPad. I can imagine that it would look just as good on the Kindle Fire.We both liked the flow of this guide book. At the beginning, it lists the top 13 things to see and do in Shanghai, it is concise (which we both liked) and doesn't go into long historical details, it sticks with the basics, it's a quick read, gets you excited about it so that you can go off and go learn it yourself. Then, for each "top things to do" there is a "click here" link that brings you to a section with greater details (such as restaurants, attractions, with details and the address). We both really liked this format. For each attraction, there is an offline map. The built-in maps were good, on the iPad they are in full color and you can zoom in and they don't get all blurry, so they are high resolution but not interactive. Thankfully, there is a "Google map link" next to each attraction, so on the iPad, clicking on the link brings you to Google maps where you can plan your journey. This is an awesome feature. We used the book and did most of the top attractions during a 6 day stay in Shanghai. We would recommend this e-book.=======Update:After posting my review, I noticed all the other negative reviews about format, lack of table of contents and poor navigation. I want to address that. I'm not sure why, maybe they recently updated the Kindle version, but I had no such issues. My comments below are for the Kindle on iPad experience:--Formatting:The book is perfectly formatted for the Kindle on iPad. It is in full color. It uses multiple different fonts and red/black text, bold text, blue links, embedded photos, etc., it is VERY easy to read. The maps and photos are in full color and can be zoomed. You can read in normal or landscape, it will properly reformat for landscape when you turn your iPad. I don't understand the negative comments... maybe the version I bought is a newer version, it is perfect.--Table of Contents (ToC):There is a nice ToC that is easily accessible from anywhere in the book at anytime; just single-click on the page, and in the top menu, the second button from the left that looks like a book brings you to the ToC. And from the ToC, you can click on any link and it brings you directly to that section. No issues. The ToC has the following sections, each with detailed links to all the subsections...Plan Your Trip (14 subsections with links)Explore Shanghai (11 subsections with links)Understand Shanghai (4 subsections with links)Survival Guide (3 subsections with links)--Navigation:After clicking on any link, anywhere, you can easily return to where you were by single-clicking on the screen, on the bottom left, there is a "back" arrow, just like any web browser. And it remembers where you were so you can go back multiple times and return exactly where you were. No issues, none. It just works.

If you are the type of person who always carries around your iPad or Kindle, then this may be the guide for you. But not for me - without a printer on my trip, I had to write down details about addresses, etc, before leaving my hotel. But even for the entirely paperless, this format has its problems - like no index or search function in the text. So - OK content; not well formatted.

Had 3 days vacation in Shanghai following a business trip and this book guided me to see the main sights in the city.

My whole family used the guide to choose things to walk to, places to eat and small trips to make. It helps us a lot.

Amazing guide. Really helpful. Especially when it comes to planning your itinerary, understanding shanghai in general. Ah... And of course, nightlife and restaurant

Not enough information - they went too far in imitating web style information and so is grossly lacking in detail. I expect more when I pay full price for a 'book'.

While I generally favor Lonely Planet guides when traveling, it must be said that the Kindle versions are near useless as a functioning travel guide. Either LP should spend time reformatting to the kindle versions and maps etc or they shouldn't insult the ignorant public from parting with their hard earned money and buying something so worthless. Buy the paper books and AVOID ALL LP KINDLE PRODUCTS. Truly disappointing on many levels.

We used the kindle edition on our recent trip to Shangghai. It is OK but no more than that - We missed a comprehensive index that is easily accessible from anywhere in the book. We have seen many sites that are not listed in the book. So - while OK it left us desiring a better guide...
